So on Monday morning we packed up the car, bursting at the seams with camping stuff...or so we thought. Apparently matches, a quilt, a saucepan and crisps don't really count as camping equipment, who'da thought huh! Basically we were complete amateurs who arrived in Cornwall after a lovely sunny drive to be enveloped in mist and the cold conclusion that we had booked ourselves in to a pod with absolutely no clue how to survive for the week.
Hugo the camp owner was more than helpful, giving us a fire and gas, a stove and the offer of more quilts. The facilities at the camp are fine, although we couldn't figure out how to get hot water in the out building, there seemed to be no light and trying to find a port-a-loo in complete misty darkness is no mean feat. Waking up to a sun filled field after a very un-comfortable nights sleep seemed to make us feel slightly better, but it was only 20 minutes before the field was filled with mist again and we were freezing, not being able to re-light our mini heater.

So after much debating and listening to our echoing hunger pains we decided to leave the pod after just one night and try and find a B&B, Hugo wasn't surprised as the main reason you stay in a pod like Tregardock is for the view and we couldn't see past my Hunters on the front decking. Now if you are an avid camper and fancy a summer holiday, I would sincerely recommend going 'podding', but don't go in March without checking the weather...it makes you miserable.

We visited Port Isaac, and we drove to Padstow why I was still in my pyjama's...I got changed in to my jeans in the car park of Padstow Harbour...how glamorous! We had a beautiful Cornish breakfast at The Old Custom House, where I would go back to stay, lovely people! Then we walked for miles along the beach, where the mist wasn't so bad, watched people play with their dogs and realised we were wearing the wrong shoes...sums us up really, we just laugh at each other and shrug.

After Padstow we realised we had nowhere to sleep so we decided to drive to St Ives...which turned in to Portsmouth, having hot chocolate on the sea front, then getting sent down a dead end with the sat nav, full bed and breakfasts and no hope. So after getting stressed, exchanging heated words which weren't needed, Dey found a very glamorous hotel and we drove the 18 minutes to absolute bliss...

ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photographs. I'm glad everything turned out okay in the end, bubs! P.S Plymouth not Portsmouth ;)
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos so far lovely :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame about the pods, we're booked up for Easter weekend, but couldn't get into those, so slightly different pods on a full camp site in a different part of Cornwall. We've been camping a few times, and when it rains it literally makes it the worst experience
xx
Great pictures, it looks cooooold!

Padstow is where mark and his family always used to go on holiday so it has fond memories for me but a pod in March doesn't sound like much fun!
